Measurement can also be about illumination—about making growth, understanding, and intent visible rather than hidden, so that interpretation isn’t left to guesswork.
Written standards—whether in education, professional practice, or workplace policy—define destinations and constraints. They are designed to travel across contexts, roles, and experience levels. What they cannot do is specify every pathway without losing the flexibility that makes them usable in real work.
That gap is not a failure of standards. It is the space where interpretation happens.
